This is “Planet Solar.” It’s the largest fully solar-powered boat in the world, and it is also the first fully solar-powered boat that completed a circumnavigation of the globe, and that was in just over two years. It now has been crossing oceans at a faster pace after an engine retrofit. As it travels with nothing but the sun as a fuel source, it holds great promise to focus public awareness on the importance of renewable energies for environmental protection.
Since April 2015, the Race for Water Foundation, a Swiss-based charity, operates the solar vessel as a demonstration and scientific platform in its fight against plastic pollution in the oceans. PlanetSolar SA helps companies and individuals to reach energy independence and is in charge of the energy management of the solar boat.
